'Waterfall ' oak bookcase

Making the most of a particularly clean batch of timber we have been able to match all the timber colour and grain beautifully to create a very attractive and practical item of storage furniture. With fixed shelves and spaces of 15”, 13”, 11” and a 7” side above the top shelf, it offers useful space for larger books or a combination of book and display space.

The outside dimensions are 32” x 54” x 15” and the back is fitted with random width t & g boards, which are used to get the best out of the available timber but also help to give the piece a hand made identity. It’s almost a pity someone will probably buy it and fill it with books straight away!

This set has 3 8” x 2” drawers and is priced at £140. The other sets currently available have either 3 or 4 drawers up to 12” wide.

Dark elm chess table.

Having proved the board assembly technique to be a success we will almost certainly make a table of  some form for the showroom very soon. I will add a new post when we have made one. Sorry, this one was made for a customer but at least it shows what is possible. This table measures 27” x 27” x 24” high and costs £795 with 2 drawers.

There is a rumour that I might even have started work on a chess set to go with it! Watch this space but don’t hold your breath.

Due to an increasing demand for our bespoke furniture I have decided to stop selling this range and have one set left to clear. It is made to a high standard with all joints being mortice and tenon and almost no sapwood included unlike cheap sets, and will last for many years with very little maintenance.

So much of the last year has been spent making doors and gates and even hen sheds that we have been craving, for some time, to settle down to good solid furniture again. Having solved the quality issues we had for a while we are now working as a well honed three person team and producing furniture of a very high standard that we are all proud of.

This is the end result before staining and finishing in a medium colour with a durable satin polyurethane finish.               To my relief we are now building up several months of orders, which must be a sign that we are doing something right! Please allow 6-7 months if you are wanting to order a piece. I have struggled for many years to find a good team all comitted to pulling in the same direction. Now I have and the workshop is operating to its full potential, I don’t want to change anything, so please be patient and allow plenty of lead time for special orders; its definitely worth waiting for!

Pippy oak coffee table 48” x 21” x 18”     £475

Measuring approximately 48” x 21” x 18” and made entirely from pippy English oak with a finely sanded finish sealed with Danish oil this coffee table offers a unique combination of modern lines and rustic charm without masking the natural beauty and feel of this most attractive timber. The pedestals are a robust 4¾” square and the whole table has a reassuringly solid feel.

This table is awaiting its last coat of oil and will be in our showroom by 27th Feb. I don’t imagine it will be there very long, but we should be able to repeat the design easily.

We probably wouldn’t need much persuading to make a dining table of similar design. Watch this space!

Last year saw us working on a large outdoor project which rather took us away from our comfort zone. For 2009 we seem to have a steady flow of modest orders to keep us going for the next few months. We are hoping to do some rearranging in our showroom, Longnor Craft Centre before it opens up again fulltime [currently just open Fri, Sat, Sun 10 - 5pm] Then we will be working to maintain stocks of our smaller items and also a few new designs including Dining Tables and Chairs.

The best I can do is show you pictures every time we make one. This is an unusual asymmetrical corner unit with a cupboard to the left for videos etc. and small ornament shelves to the right.

Made from unstained oak and finished in a low sheen polyurethane with a heavy ex 2” top and sitting on 5 easyglide castors, this unit costs £900 and is one of the few pieces we make that is staying local to the workshop.
