Problem with carriers.

This beautiful Utile coffee table recently left our workshop, heading for its new home in London, courtesy of carriers, TNT.

When it arrived it looked as though it had been blown up with TNT.

With minimal damage to the packaging it was not obvious from the outside that there was any damage inside. So my customer signed for it. There is no way she could or would inflict this damage. It appears to have been dropped from five feet up onto a hard surface. Yet because it was signed for TNT will not even listen to our protests or requests for compensation. I would be embarrassed to behave in such a way!

The warning is to always sign for your parcel as unchecked if you don’t open it first!

I have just finished making a replacement table for my very patient customer. I haven’t finished with TNT yet!

A Rare Opportunity

It is very rare for me to offer furniture for sale that isn’t made by us, but a one off situation has occurred resulting in me having a small number of top quality oak pieces for sale. They were made by Matt Burrows who learned his trade with us at Fox Country Furniture and advanced to a very high standard before leaving to start his own business. He has now decided to concentrate on joinery work and needed the space taken by his furniture showroom. So we are selling off his last few pieces for him at prices well below our ‘new’ prices.

We are occasionally asked by a customer to follow a specification very closely. This striking, contemporary unit was created by such a collaberation.

Cabinet almost complete in the workshop.

It was designede to look clean and simple with mitred doors and top and bevelled glass. It is finished in its natural colour and with a danish oil top coat, giving it a beautiful silky sheen.

Dimensions of this one are 52′ x 26” x 21” with adjustable glass shelves. An exact copy of this one would cost £1,500.

A simplified design in a similar style would cost around £1,200.

Hardwood garden gate.

Our Iroko garden gates are proving quite popular. Here is the latest addition which has now been installed in Longnor.

This type of timber is naturally oily and will survive quite happily without any preservative applied, silvering over a period of months.

This size of gate at 3′ x 4′ costs around £500 not including fitting. It may not be the cheapest option but will last for 25 – 30 years with very little maintenance.

Pippy Oak Coffee Table with Shelf

We have had a busy start to the new year and one item just completed is this beautiful pippy oak coffee table. Finished in durable satin polyurethane with a medium stain which highlights the grain and pippy ‘cat’s paws’, it is a good heavy table of our slab end style, measuring 50” x 20” x 16”.

This table was made for stock and is available now from our showroom at £495.

We found a very good sample of pippy oak which means the table is pippy throughout, not just the top!

Happy New Year!

A happy new year to all our customers, past, present and future. Now that we have reappeared through several feet of snow we are back in full swing in the workshop after a few weeks of disruption.

When the sky finally cleared!!!!!

Several fine pieces have already been created including a batch of walnut and cherry mini drawers.

Rory has acquired a friend in the shape of Jimbob the Jack Russell from the local kennels.

We have already adopted him as the workshop dog and his friendly nature goes down well with visitors.

Keep an eye on us as I shall be updating this site frequently in the coming months. There is also a rumour that I could be adding more video content soon with the help of my new mini camcorder.

Please note that we still have around 8 months of orders ahead of us so allow plenty time if you are considering placing an order.

Church Notice Board.

We have recently completed a new notice board for St Lukes church at nearby Onecote. We put a lot of effort into design to make sure it is resistant to attack from the elements and feel happy that it should give many years of good service.

Made from iroko and finished with a durable outdoor varnish it should last several decades, even without constant attention. This design of board should be suitable for most locations and can be fitted either to posts as shown or battens on a solid wall.

This size, 48” x 30” would cost £675 + fitting.

Miniature oak drawers.

Our miniature oak drawer sets are now in the showroom, looking lovely and awaiting new owners. They are already being much admired by the residents!

What do you think Doris? Ooooh Albert! they're lovely-- just perfect!

This set has 3 8” x 2” drawers and is priced at £140. The other sets currently available have either 3 or 4 drawers up to 12” wide.

The teddies are made by Chris Bears and are among a charming group of resident bears at the showroom, Longnor Craft Centre.

Oak jewellery boxes.

We are just finishing these wonderful miniature sets of drawers for jewellery or nick nacks and they should be in the showroom within a few days.

Handmade oak jewellery drawers

Rangeing from 8” to 12” wide and comprising of 3 or 4 drawers at 2” deep they will sit neatly on a dressing table top and hold all the small items that usually go astray or get knocked off onto the floor.

These sets are all hand made by us with the same care and attention to detail as we put into our full size furniture, even down to the hand turned knobs which are turned in sticks of 5 so they all match on each set. [see seperate post on them]

We have just made oak ones so far, but are planning some walnut and cherry ones soon.

Prices start at £140 for the 3 drawer 8′ wide to £165 for the larger 4 drawer set.

We have just finished a number of items for the showroom including our popular nests of tables and 4 leg round stools together with the versatile footstool.

These are now in our Longnor showroom at £469.

Small oak stools

Any of the stools now in stock can be inscribed with lettering for a christening or birthday etc. The 4 leg round stools are £52 with the square footstool costing £72. Lettering is normally £14 for up to 14 letters.
